Naming requirements for a Missouri LLC
When forming your Limited Liability Company in Missouri, your business name must meet a few state-mandated rules. These rules exist to make it clear to anyone dealing with your business that it is, in fact, an LLC — and to make sure no two businesses in Missouri share the same name.
Required suffixes
Your LLC name must end with one of these designators: LLC, L.L.C. or Limited Liability Company.
Restricted and prohibited words
Words that imply you're a bank, an insurance company, or a government agency typically need additional licensing or approval. Words associated with regulated professions (like "Attorney" or "Doctor") may also be restricted.
Name uniqueness
Your LLC name must be distinguishable from every other business entity registered with the Missouri Secretary of State. Adding punctuation or a single letter usually isn't enough.
